Hi friends! Welcome!
I'm so glad that you're here. I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while, and today, with a very busy spring in my wake, I'm sitting down to write my very first post. I thought it was only fitting to start by introducing myself and sharing a little bit of how Sarah Amick Photography came to life.
I've had a camera in my hand since I was sixteen, back when I got my first SLF and couldn't stop taking pictures of my friends, family, and anything that caught my eye. For years, photography was my creative outlet, a way to freeze time and hold on to life's little moments. This ramped up even more with the birth of my first child, Lucas, and my husband's gift of my first DSLR from my husband. He knew that it would get plenty of use, and boy did it! Then in 2019, after a lot of encouragement (and maybe a little push) from friends who believed in me, I officially launched my photography business.
I won't lie to you, starting something new is scary. I might have known what I was doing behind a camera, but running a business? I was clueless. I read, studied, talked to others in the photography business, and took the leap. And just when things were beginning to roll, the world turned upside down with the COVID pandemic. I thought my newfound dream was over before it really even began. But then something beautiful happened. A friend sent me a link to something that photographers in other areas were doing, Porch Pictures. Photographers were traveling to homes and taking photos of families on their porches or front yards at a distance. Some were creative and funny, some were sweet, and some were a means of celebration. I loved it and went and did her family's photos soon after. Those photos made their rounds and I had requests to visit other families! That's when I started offering "pay what you can" porch sessions. My business not only survived because of these sessions, but it thrived. It became more than just photos for me. It became about connection, resilience, and documenting love in all its forms.
Now, years later, I specialize in senior portraits, family photography, and capturing events (especially theatre and fine arts events, it makes my heart so happy!). I get to photograph real people in real moments, and that never gets old. I have laughed at senior sessions, cried at family sessions, and been in awe of live performances. It's all magic to me, and I am blown away that I get to freeze those moments in time.
Outside of photography, I'm a wife and mom to two amazing boys. We live in Clemson, SC, and when I'm not behind the camera, you can usually find me at the theatre, traveling, or cheering on my kids on in whatever adventure they are a part of.
This blog will be a space where I share a mix of things: behind-the-scenes peeks, favorite sessions, tips for clients, and a little bit of life in between. My hope is that it helps you get to know the person behind the lens, and maybe, just maybe, reminds you just how beautiful your own story is.
Thanks for stopping by. I'm so honored to be a part of your moments.
With love and gratitude,
Sarah
